
Roald Helgesen
Chief Operating Officer

As Chief Operating Officer, Roald oversees Tlingit & Haida’s administrative and program operations, ensuring alignment with the Tribe’s strategic goals, budgets, and policies. He serves as a key liaison with government and private organizations, represents the Tribe in business negotiations, and contributes his expertise on the Investment Committee for the Tribal Trust Fund, the Tlingit & Haida/Hope Condominium Association board, tribally owned enterprises, and as a trustee for the Tribe’s Employee Retirement Plans.
A lifelong public servant, Roald previously held executive leadership roles as CEO of the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) and President & CEO of the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC). He began his career in emergency response in Sitka as a volunteer EMT and firefighter, later serving as fire captain and working on SEARHC’s medevac team.
Roald holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science (magna cum laude) from the University of Alaska Anchorage and a Master of Science degree in Health Care Administration from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.
Roald is was raised in Sitka, he is Eagle/Frog of the Sgajuuga.ahl clan.
