Flying Soon? Tribal ID Is Accepted!

Flying Soon? Tribal ID Is Accepted!

Published January 8, 2026

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has released information regarding citizens traveling without any form of ID.

Effective February 1, 2026, TSA will be launching “ConfirmID”, a new program that will allow traveling passengers who do not present a REAL ID at checkpoints but still want to fly to pay a $45 fee to verify their identity.

Passengers who have a photo identification card issued by a federally recognized Tribe, including Enhanced Tribal Identification Cards, will not be affected by this new program or have to pay the $45 fee.

After having their identity confirmed by a TSA Officer, passengers can proceed through the security screening. However, in certain circumstances where an identification card appears to be tampered with, altered or photo identification does not match, TSA can request a second form of identification that meets the REAL ID requirements to confirm identity.

Any passengers with disabilities or medical conditions can always contact the TSA Cares helpline at 1.855.787.2227 at least 72 hours before their scheduled flight. Passengers can also complete an online request form at TSA Cares Form or, if assistance is needed at a checkpoint, they can ask for a Supervisory Transportation Security Officer or Passenger Support Specialist.
