Tlingit & Haida is deeply concerned about a recent incident involving the Juneau Police Department and one of our tribal citizens. Based on what has been shared by witnesses and community members, the level of force used during the arrest raises serious questions and demands a full, transparent investigation.

We have formally reached out to Mayor Beth Weldon and JPD Chief Derek Bos to request:
- An independent review of the incident
- A meeting with tribal leadership
- Transparency in findings and outcomes
- A renewed commitment to culturally respectful public safety
This is not just about one incident—it’s about the responsibility we all share to ensure justice, dignity, and safety for every person in our community, especially those who have historically been targeted or mistreated.
We stand with our citizens, and we remain committed to working toward a safer and more just future.
