Juneau, Alaska (December 19, 2025) — A new way to support Tlingit & Haida’s vision has taken shape through the formation of a 501(c)(3) non-profit, the Tlingit & Haida Foundation. Grounded in cultural values and shared responsibility, the Foundation’s mission is to “Strengthen tribal communities through resources that advance education, wellness and self-determination.”
As the philanthropic arm of the Tribe, the Foundation will be governed by a board of directors and mobilize resources, steward charitable investments, and build partnerships focused on community.
“When you support the foundation, you’re investing in the future of our people,” said Jamie Gomez, Tlingit & Haida Foundation Executive Director. Every donation directly advances the work we are doing like expanding educational pathways and cultural revitalization efforts through our Education and Cultural Immersion campuses or investing in programs that promote wellness and honor our values.”
The Foundation’s first major capital campaign project will focus on the Juneau Tribal Education Campus, a visionary project rooted in education sovereignty and the cultural revitalization of our people. Designed as a place-based learning environment, the 12-acre campus will honor Indigenous knowledge systems, strengthen environmental stewardship, and foster the continuation of Tlingit and Haida cultural heritage. This initiative advances the Tribe’s long-standing commitment to reclaiming tribal land, where culture is not only preserved, but lived—supporting healing, identity, and opportunity for generations to come.
The Foundation not only leads major capital campaign initiatives that advance the Tribe’s long-term vision, but also plays a vital role in supporting smaller, community-centered fundraising efforts that meet immediate program needs. This includes initiatives such as the annual Elders Winter Care Package project, the Back-to-School Backpack distribution, youth wellness and enrichment activities, and other programs that need financial support.
