
The Central Council of Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska (Tlingit & Haida) is seeking dedicated individuals to fill two (2) vacancies on the Tlingit Haida Regional Housing Authority (THRHA) Board of Commissioners. Each position carries a three-year term.
Candidates are encouraged to apply from all Tlingit & Haida communities that have designated THRHA as their Tribally Designated Housing Entity (TDHE) under the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act, or from communities with existing THRHA housing inventory.
Serving on the Board of Commissioners is a meaningful opportunity to help shape the future of housing for communities across Southeast Alaska.
Applicant Qualifications
- Residence in or a strong connection to a THRHA-served community
- Strong communication and financial analysis skills
- Ability to attend quarterly weekday meetings
- Willingness and ability to travel by small plane, commercial airline, or ferry, as needed
- Reliable access to the internet and availability for Board communications
- Commitment to housing services and community development
- Compliance with all statutory and ethical requirements
Statutory and Bylaw Requirements
In accordance with Alaska Statute 18.55.996 and THRHA Bylaws, board members must:
- Reside in a community that utilizes THRHA as its TDHE (only one member may be from a non-serviced community)
- Not be a current employee, vendor, or contractor of THRHA, nor have any conflict of interest
- Possess professional or management-level experience; preference given to housing, finance, banking, real estate, construction management, nonprofit leadership, community development financial institutions, legal, business, tribal, or government sectors
- Not be a registered sex offender or have a felony conviction
- Be of upstanding moral character and have no history of moral turpitude

About the Tlingit–Haida Regional Housing Authority
THRHA was established under Alaska Statute 18.55.995, which authorizes Tlingit & Haida to create a regional housing authority for Southeast Alaska. Under this authority, Tlingit & Haida appoints a five-member Board of Commissioners to provide governance, oversight, and strategic direction for housing programs and development throughout the region.
