Unbreakable Unity, Ancestral Strength: Tlingit & Haida Tribal Assembly Theme 2026

Unbreakable Unity, Ancestral Strength: Tlingit & Haida Tribal Assembly Theme 2026

Published April 22, 2026

Each year, delegates, citizens, and leaders gather for the Tlingit & Haida Tribal Assembly—an important time to come together, reflect, and shape the path forward for future generations. The 2026 theme, “Unbreakable Unity, Ancestral Strength,” honors the enduring bonds that connect our people and the strength passed down through our ancestors.

This year’s theme emerged from the voices of Tribal citizens. Tlingit & Haida received 125 thoughtful submissions, each reflecting the values, hopes and vision of Tlingit & Haida people. From these, two powerful themes were ultimately combined into one, capturing both the collective strength of unity and the deep-rooted resilience drawn from our ancestors. Andrea Trent Flanneryand Ziggy Palmer proposed themes were selected by the Executive Council at its April 17, 2026, meeting.

Tlingit & Haida people have always drawn resilience from one another. Through times of change and challenge, it is our unity—across clans, communities, and generations—that has carried us forward. This year’s theme serves as a powerful reminder that we are strongest when we stand together, grounded in the teachings, values, and wisdom of those who came before us.

“Unbreakable Unity” speaks to the collective spirit of our people. It reflects our shared responsibility to uplift one another, to listen deeply and to work collaboratively for the good of all. Whether through governance, cultural preservation, or community care, unity is the foundation of our success.

“Ancestral Strength” recognizes the guidance and power we inherit from those who came before us. Our ancestors’ stories, songs, language and ways of life continue to shape who we are today. As we navigate modern challenges, we carry their strength within us—guiding decisions, inspiring leadership and grounding us in identity.

Throughout Tribal Assembly, delegates will engage in meaningful dialogue, consider resolutions, and celebrate the accomplishments of our people. It is also a time to honor culture through song, dance, and shared traditions—reminding us that our identity is not only preserved but lived.

As we gather under this year’s theme, we reaffirm a commitment to one another and to those who will come after us. Together, we stand in unbreakable unity. Together, we carry the strength of our ancestors.

The 91st Annual Tribal Assembly will convene September 23-25, 2026. Delegates will meet at the Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall in Juneau, AK.
