General Assistance (GA) provides financial assistance to eligible Alaska Natives and American Indians for essential needs (food, clothing, shelter and utilities). GA payments are not intended to pay off bills, credit card debts, loans, etc. Payments are only to be used to pay verified/actual monthly expenses.
The goal of the GA program is to increase self-sufficiency. Each recipient must work with an assigned caseworker to develop and sign an Individual Self-Sufficiency Plan (ISP). The plan must outline the specific steps the individual will take to increase independence by meeting the goal of employment. The caseworker develops a case plan and focuses on assisting the client toward self-sufficiency.
