Artist’s Statement:

Peace and harmony feel to me like “somebody satisfied with a job well done” and at peace. “Raven-like shiny” is a joke phrase many cousins and relatives use here in Saxman Village. It’s common knowledge that ravens are attracted to shiny things.

My thought was, “After a long day, Raven eventually finds his shiny object, can return to his perch, and be at peace.” The circular nature of this design allowed me to depict the raven almost as if he’s “kicking back” with his precious shiny bit in his beak, colored silver.

If that were my favorite thing to do and I did it, I’d feel great. I enjoy drawing ravens more than any other animal, so creating this piece felt peaceful and natural.
